Treasure Island - Irony

I think that the major literary element of Treasure Island is irony. Throughout the novel there have been many seperate instances in which the author, Robert Louis Stevenson, has used irony to give the book surprising twists or enexpected events. The type of Irony that seems to be most prevelant in this novel is situational irony.

I think Robert Louis Stevenson used irony to give the reader a more enjoyable experience reading the book. Another reason he might have used irony is to give the book more appeal to a lager audience. A person that reads a book and then tells a friend that the book has some crazy twists in it is probably leading to the friend reading the book. Over all I have enjoyed this book.

  1. Situational variables can exert powerful influences over human behavior, more so that we recognize or acknowledge. See the link below for more info.
